The Indy 500

Do you enjoy watching races? Do you want to become a racecar driver? If so, you’ll enjoy this article about the Indy Motorcar Speedway located near Indianapolis, IN. The speedway was made and founded on February 9, 1909 by Carl Fisher and three other investors. 382 acres of farmland was purchased. The first race was on May 30, 1911 and was won by Ray Harroun. It is a 2 and a half mile long oval and the drivers drive 200 laps at fast speeds. Don’t forget to bring your earplugs! It is very noisy when 33 cars are zooming around the track. The race is held on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.

When he was in Indiana, he went to school for only 1 year because he helped cut down trees and spilt logs. He lived in Indiana for 14 years. Abraham was president of the United States from 1861-1865. Thanks to Abraham, we got through the Civil War. A couple of days later, he was killed at Ford’s Theater in 1865 by John Wilkes Booth.
